Would You Please Put Your Butt Somewhere Else
Let me just say right off that even though I'm not a smoker, and never have been unless you count the illegal stuff back when I was younger, I have no desire to see smoking banned everywhere just because I don't do it. However, something that really frosts my cake is the inconsiderate slobs that empty their ashtrays at the intersection. It's rather disgusting I believe to pull up to a red light, glance out the window and see a pile of butts staring back at you. Is it really to much to ask for you to take your cast-offs and put them in YOUR trashcan?

I mean how about we all just start using the intersections to get rid of our newspapers, wrappers, bottles, plastic bags what have you. Or maybe we need to start having trash cans located at all traffic lights and intersections, and we can increase taxes to pay for the cost of hiring some workers to take care of this added task?.

Another thing that 'frosts my cake' is people putting stuff down storm drains. Many people seem to have the attitude that once they throw something out the window, it magically disappears, and that's why you have so much trouble with clogged storm drains that reveal all the accumulated trash after a heavy rain. There's a trail that I walk from time to time that runs along the Gwynns Falls River. After a heavy rain, you'll see tons of trash floating down the river winding it's way toward the harbor and eventually the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore, a tired old town that I've called home for most of my life, is unfortunately a very dirty city in many places, and it's particularly bad about this.

Just a little consideration of others AND the environment would be nice. I don't have any illusions about changing habits but if one person thinks before throwing his butt or other stuff out the window of his car, then this column has at least accomplished something.
