You may wonder how well your experience at the Big4 will convert when you go looking for a job in the larger marketplace. Stop worrying. Whether you are in emerging technology, serve as an auditor, or work with mergers and acquisitions, your skills are highly transferable.
When translating your current skills into the grist for your next job, remember that the values your current employer embodies can be the framework for your presentation of skills. Let's say that your particular Big4 company values service beyond all else. Touch on the many ways you have served your clients when you prepare your resume. How about the diverse range of skills and talent that the company looked for when it hired you? Detail those on the resume. If your company has valued your insights, give some examples of them. Demonstrate to the NEXT employer that the PAST employer (in this case the Big4) valued what you offered.
As a business advisory organization, each of the Big4 has developed a strategic way of thinking about a problem. On your resume, show how you have resolved problems. The Big4 are globally-involved. How can you demonstrate YOUR global involvement?
The Big4 generally attract people who love a good challenge and lots of variety. Any company seeking to hire you will want to know how you meet challenges and the breadth of your work scope. Be sure to tell all of your accomplishments.
Remember, the experience you bring to your industry will be well-received by any company within the industry when you have shown them how the Big4 gave you super-sized tools that you will bring with you. It's just a matter of converting the Big4 needs that they hired you for into your personal achievements to further your reputation and accomplishments.
